Bastile Day - what a day to be in Paris

We are here on a Bastille day so of course we were going to watch the parade. It became very apparent that we got going too late and found that all the metro stops along the Champs d'Elysees were closed. At least we weren't the only people caught by surprised. Finally at the Etoile station we were able to finally able to get out ... and then we moved along with the crowd for quite a distance underground. We were not sure if we were going to be able to see ANY of the parade. With so many of the streets blocked off by the military, the walk to the Champs was the long way around. In the end we were so far back from the street that there was no chance of seeing much but the tops of the large tanks. It began with the air force fly overs which we were able to see clearly. There must have been 15 - 20 formations go overhead and this was by far the best part of the parade for us.

With the thousands of people all on foot our search for a cafe resulted in us walking all the ways along the Seine to the Tuilleries. It was quite a warm day so the shade under the trees was a welcomed relief. We found a carousel and park for the girls to burn some energy on before sitting down at an outdoor cafe.

Being right beside the Louvre, we chose to go in. The musee pass once again took us right in without standing in line. The girls wanted to see a mummy so off we went in search of the it. It was a bit of effort to locate but they didn't seem ro mind. We really weren't planning on staying long but the girls were just fascinated. So off we went to see Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo before hobbling out to find a metro. If it weren't for the sore feet the girls would have been happy to stay longer!

Tonight's fireworks at the Eiffel tower will probably include lots of walking ... so we are not sure if we are up to it.
