With mixed feeling I say goodbye to all of my girls ... all 19 of them .... except for Alex and Tessa ... after our final games on the weekend. The 2/3 girls played on Friday night and had a blast playing in a highschool gym with glass backboards. These being only their 2nd and 3rd official games, they did quite well. Tessa (and her mom) were quite pleased when she scored the first basket of the night! Its been interesting working with such young players. The skill level, even their lack of strength made coaching ... interesting. A few of the girls were so tiny that getting the ball up to the 8 foot nets was impossible. Thankfully the games of tag and human knot kept them coming back each week!

The 4/5 girls played their final two games Saturday morning. One of our players was sick so we had two complete lines ... made the substitutions much easier. These guys also enjoyed playing in the big gym but the glass backboards bounce different than the wood and not many of ours dropped. The girls played fantastic defense ... probably the best I've seen all year. Not tooo much running after their checks as they went in for layups. The second team we were to play didn't show so we ended up playing an intersquad game. Jason's 5 against mine. The girls played hard for 25 minutes, with sisters Monica and Stephanie, Sam and Salma, getting quite physical! At the end they were all red faced and winded ... but smiling. Oh, except Alex, with about 1 minute left in the game she was diving for a loose ball and did a major face plant. So all of our photos at the end, she looks like she has lost her best friend. She didn't get any hoops this time round but I saw her in snagging rebounds, tying up balls and ..... dribbling with her LEFT on the left side of the court. I was in heaven!
